"Lyric came into existence as a unique collaboration between groups of scientists, engineers, and physicians who all had a common vision of trying to produce the best possible hearing aid, and we started on the assumption of: What does the patient really need? What does a hearing aid user want and desire in a hearing aid?

We all knew that getting a hearing aid to deliver sound as close to the ear drum as possible made for the most natural sounding amplification. We felt that the only way that could be appropriately done would be to build a device small enough to place near the ear drum and allow a patient to wear the device 24/7 for a period of months."

"The Lyric device produces a sound quality that is always described as natural because the entire instrument -- the microphone, the receiver element, the output of the speaker -- is all placed within the ear canal, which means that the natural funneling effect, for example of the pinna that helps gather sound into the ear, is all there. And the output of the speaker is very close to the ear drum. So the first thing the patients will notice with the InSound device is that they no longer have an occlusion effect. They don't have that sense that their ear is plugged in some way."
